  • Iowa Couple Travels to Jordan to Assist with Syrian Refugees
West Liberty, Iowa (March 1, 2017) — Iowans Ethan and Bethany Anderson are traveling to Jordan to assist in Syrian refugee relief efforts. They are planning a trip in early April to volunteer with the Alliance Church in Mafraq, Jordan. This church is working to meet the needs of Syrian refugees in their city by providing household supplies to thousands of families as well as running an informal school for refugee children. Mafraq, Jordan is near the Syrian border and has received an influx of more than 78,000 Syrian refugees over the past few years, more than doubling the population of the town. Another 80,000+ refugees are housed in the nearby Zaatari refugee camp. Their goal is to show their support and concern for Syrian refugees by raising awareness of this critical work, and to help in a practical way. For more information about their trip, see ethanandbethany.com. The story of their trip has also been featured on Iowa Public Radio’s program Talk of Iowa (http://iowapublicradio.org/post/president-hoovers-wwi-food-reliefiowa-couple-helps-syrianrefugees)
